- The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the
Comatorium - My friend Monica recommend this band to me, and at first I
had a hard time listening to them. Months later, after reading an interview
in Modern Drummer with the drummer, I wanted to give them another try―but I
couldn't find my CD. Then I saw The Mars Volta end up in
Neil Peart's quality listening list. I finally found my CD and made
myself listen to it. I have to agree with a lot of people that there's
something unique in this band's sound. I hear echoes of Yes, King Crimson,
Santana, Rush, and many others―but it all seems to come together nicely.
This album is one of those challenging ones―the kind you don't get into
right away but you have a feeling you might end up loving it down the road.

this is some cool music. It's a fusion of Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Los Lobos,
Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Cray, and some other cool music. I really like
the sound on this CD. The drumming is great, too, with one of the best snare
sounds I've heard in a long time.
