Close encounter with Neil's drums - Page 3

A mystery motorcycle man drove up on a BMW bike. He was dressed all in black and wore a Rush crew t-shirt. He grabbed a cane and soft drum case that had been sitting on the stage, talked to a few of the "crew", and walked out of the parking lot. The man looked a lot like Neil's riding partner, Michael, whom I had seen in pictures. Could this mean that he was scouting for Neil? That he would ride in and out with him? Why did he leave?

And then a Jeep Cherokee showed up with some guys who pulled out large cases. From the cases came monster video cameras. Were they going to film this event because Neil was going to be there?

I also talked to guy in the crowd who said he got there early and took pictures of Lorne setting up the kit. He also overheard people saying things to Lorne like, "Why are you taking your time setting up the drums tonight?" Was it because Neil would be there and would want everything perfect?

Whatever the answer, the atmosphere was charged.

I took the opportunity to ask one of the Guitar Center guys to take a picture from behind Neil's drums. He was more than happy.

And then, around 5:00 p.m., Bill Morgan took to the stage.
