Neil Peart's drumming, music, writing, and ideas have inspired me throughout most of my life, and I'm devastated to hear the news that he's passed away at age 67. My thoughts are with Neil's family and friends, Geddy and Alex, the Rush family, and fans worldwide. #RIPNeilPeart

So sad to hear of the passing of Neil Peart. Such a kind, sweet man who went out of his way to help when I was working on my book. #neilpeart pic.twitter.com/QkYhWKlSbO

Very sad to hear about Neil Peart's passing. Pictured here at HHOF for a photo shoot with the NHL logo drums he used to record "The Hockey Theme" on July 17, 2010. He described that song as Canada's 2nd anthem. He later donated the snare drum and his sticks to the HHOF. RIP pic.twitter.com/2bxkOGW5zS

Every drummer has “their guy” - the first drummer that inspired them to pick up the sticks, or the drummer that they’ve taken the most inspiration from (re: ripped off) over their career. I can’t begin to imagine how many drummers say that Neil Peart was “their guy.”

It’s an odd feeling to grieve someone I never met, yet here I sit, RUSH on the stereo, my eyes swollen from tears. From teenaged feelings of alienation and angst, through the pain and loss adulthood brings, to the hazy sentimentality and resignation of later years...

As a young aspiring drummer growing up in Toronto it was a point of pride that one of the great rock drummers in the world came from our area. We spent countless hours trying to figure out how he did what he did. And we never did. #RIPNeilPeart pic.twitter.com/y9h0JFRal7

I have told this story to very few people, but due to a weird confluence of circumstances, I had the chance to meet and hang out with Neil Peart for part of a day the last time they played in OKC. Ended up driving him to the gig, just the two of us in my truck.

I wrote to Neil Peart when I was a kid. Needless to say, I was pretty blown away when this postcard showed up. Years later when I met him, I told him how much that meant to me. He smiled and asked what he wrote. I remembered it verbatim. RIP to one of the greats. pic.twitter.com/VlXXle6hBL

All artists can learn something from the way Neil Peart approached his work—with fierce dedication, unrelenting rigor, and little regard for the whims of fashion. A giant in all the ways that matter. A true searcher. A genius.
